Terms of Service
Last updated: 29 July 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Matcha Story. They cover the Matcha Story mobile app, matchastory.app, and the café partner portal. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Matcha Story.
Who we are
Matcha Story (“we”, “us”) is an independent guide to matcha in Singapore, operated from Singapore. You can reach us any time at hello@matchastory.app.
Who can use Matcha Story
You must be at least 13 years old to use Matcha Story. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use it with the involvement of a parent or guardian. By using the app you confirm you meet these requirements and that nothing in law prevents you from agreeing to these terms.
Your account
You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address, or with your Google or Apple account. You are responsible for keeping access to that email account and device secure, and for activity that happens under your account. Please tell us promptly if you believe someone else is using it.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app. Deletion is permanent and erases your profile, tastings, and photos — see the Privacy Policy for detail.
Café information is a guide, not a guarantee
This matters, so we want to be plain about it. Matcha Story lists cafés, menus, prices, opening hours, and details such as the grade or origin of a matcha. That information is compiled from a mix of sources: submissions from café owners, published menus and websites, and our own research. We do not operate any of the cafés we list, and we cannot guarantee that any listing is accurate, complete, or current.
- Prices, menus, and opening hours change — often without notice.
- A drink shown in the app may be seasonal, sold out, or discontinued.
- Details about a café or its matcha may be incomplete or out of date.
Always check with the café directly before relying on anything — especially before travelling to one, and especially for allergen, dietary, and ingredient information, which we cannot verify and which you should never rely on the app for. Your visit to, and any purchase from, a café is between you and that café. We are not a party to it.
Content you create
When you log a tasting, rate a drink, write notes, or upload a photo, that content stays yours. We don’t claim ownership of it.
To run the app, we need your permission to use it in limited ways. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and display your content for the purpose of operating and improving Matcha Story — for example, storing your journal so it syncs across sessions, and including your ratings in the aggregated community averages that power recommendations. Aggregated data of that kind is anonymous and cannot be traced back to you. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for anonymised aggregates that no longer identify you and for any copies we must keep by law.
You confirm that content you upload is yours to share, and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
Rules of use
Please don’t:
- Post content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, deceptive, or obscene, or that infringes someone else’s rights.
- Submit reviews or ratings that are fake, paid for, or designed to unfairly boost or damage a café.
- Impersonate anyone, or claim to represent a café you have no authority over.
- Scrape, bulk-download, or resell our café catalogue or other content.
- Interfere with the service, probe it for vulnerabilities, or try to access accounts or data that aren’t yours.
- Use Matcha Story to break the law.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. Where it’s reasonable to do so, we’ll tell you why.
For cafés & partners
If you submit or manage a café listing through our partner form or portal, you confirm that you are authorised to act for that business and that the information you provide is accurate and yours to share. You grant us permission to publish it — including your menu, photos, and business details — in the app and on our website.
We review submissions before publishing and may edit listings for accuracy, consistency, or formatting, or decline to list a business. We may also list a café using publicly available information; if you operate a café and would like its listing corrected or removed, email us and we will sort it out.
Our content
The Matcha Story name, logo, app design, written guides, and the catalogue as a whole belong to us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property law. You may use the app for your own personal, non-commercial enjoyment. Everything else is reserved.
Café names, logos, and trade marks belong to their respective owners and are shown for identification.
Third-party services & links
Matcha Story links out to café websites and ordering pages, and relies on third-party services such as maps and sign-in providers. We don’t control those services and aren’t responsible for their content, availability, or practices. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.
Changes to the service
Matcha Story is actively being built. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or discontinue the service. We’ll give reasonable notice of significant changes where we can. The app is provided free of charge, and we don’t promise it will always be available or uninterrupted.
Disclaimers
Matcha Story is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that any café information, recommendation, or other content will be accurate or suitable for your purposes.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Matcha Story will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. This includes loss or disappointment arising from café information that turns out to be wrong, and from anything you buy or consume at a café you found through us.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim (which, for a free app, is likely to be nothing) or SGD 100.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Singapore law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Ending these terms
You may stop using Matcha Story at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially break these terms, or if we stop operating the service. The sections that by their nature should survive — content licences for anonymised aggregates, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law — continue to apply after termination.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Matcha Story after a change means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them or from your use of Matcha Story. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
